Who is Sandbox Consulting?
Hi there, I’m Lori Charvat, the Principal of Sandbox Consulting. I have been working with organizations and their people for the last 20 years to create socially just, collaborative and productive work teams. I wear various hats – as a strategist, a mediator, a facilitator and a coach – to help my clients work through tough stuff, like change and conflict. Most importantly, I get you to the other side of the “mess,” so that people get back on track to get work done.
I am a certified executive coach through the International Coach Federation with the Professional Certified Coach (PCC) designation, and a member of the Civil Roster of Mediate BC. I am certified in the Strengths Deployment Inventory tool and in the Prosci change management methodology.
From time to time, I bring on associate consultants to co-facilitate a workshop, analyze data for a 360 review, or conduct a leadership assessment. As the Principal, however, I oversee all of Sandbox’s projects and am the primary contact for all our clients.
What’s our Story?
I started my career as a lawyer, focused on human rights. I had visions of making the world a better place, where people are treated equally and get a fair chance. And, the community – in all senses of the word – thrive. I still hold this vision of social justice, and I focus this on the workplace. I did not much like the adversarial role that comes with lawyering, so I pivoted into the role of mediator and organizational development consultant that I am today. I still get to work with my passion of making the world a better place, one leader, one team or workplace at a time.
Having a coach who listens actively, engages creatively in problem-solving, and understands the nuances of organizational issues is both salve for the wounds and affirmation that courage is the next step. Lori “gets it” regarding complex organizations. She helped me let go of certainties to reclaim my creativity. A terrific coach, like Lori, guides this reclaiming and affirms where strengths lie to resolve problems.
Lori is a skilled mediator and facilitator. She has excellent intuition, which she combines with intelligence and strong analytical thinking. She understands the source of conflict among individuals and within groups, and is able to bring that to the surface when assisting people in resolving their differences and in moving forward stronger than before. Her manner is calm and welcoming, and she creates a safe space where people feel free to be open- a key to conflict resolution work.
We hired Lori to assist us with a challenging change process. Lori worked tirelessly with our team to build a strong foundation for a productive and respectful workplace. She is creative, sensitive, and effective. Lori is a consummate professional who brings a refreshing and solution-oriented approach to every challenge.
Working with Lori is always refreshing and a pleasure. Lori combines expert knowledge with emotional awareness and sensitivity to the investigative work through our Respect in the Workplace initiative. Lori is methodical, thorough, impartial, and pragmatic. I recommend Lori highly.
Lori Charvat is a multi-talented facilitator and coach. She is extremely knowledgeable on the various elements of leadership - leading self, leading and engaging teams, and leading change, and has delivered numerous workshops for us on these topics. Participants in her sessions have shared their appreciation of Lori’s ability to connect with all learners, her flexibility, and her thoughtfulness. Vantage Point is grateful to have Lori as part of our community.
Lori brings a valuable rare insight that provides a dynamic approach to making a significant difference to leadership challenges. Her ability to connect with issues along with her strength in pulling out what truly matters is the gift she brings to the table each and every time.
Lori delivered a five part leadership program to our Directors. The program, and Lori's facilitation and delivery skills, were highly rated. We subsequently engaged Lori to work with the Board and myself to develop and deliver the first 360o leadership review process for the CEO of Vancouver Foundation. Also very well done, and like the leadership training for Directors, the 360o review continues to generate benefits for us all.
